There are plenty of things to do in this week's #HourOfCode - Minecraft tutorials, lessons for primary school students and more - but how about creating your own game and winning a Minecraft Gameband?!

Microsoft Imagine are hosting a live event at 11am on Saturday 12th December, during which you can learn how to code your own game and host it online using Dreamspark and Microsoft Azure.

Digital skills are increasingly in demand by employers, and the ability to take an idea, shape it, build it, present it, and bring it to life is key to innovation, both in the tech industry and all other areas of employment. Saturday's event is aimed at 13-18 year olds, and seeks to challenge young people to combine their imaginations with new skills learned during the live session to experience what it is like to build their own game in the cloud.

Led by Microsoft evangelists Lilian Kasem and Lee Stott, the event will offer first time coders the opportunity to gain hands-on experience using the following tools:

  • Visual Studio Code or
  • Visual Studio 2015
  • Github client
  • Github account
  • Nodejs
  • Azure Web Sites via DreamSpark.com

Looking beyond the Hour Of Code, Lee and Lilian will also guide you through the registration process for the DreamSpark programme offering, and point you to our latest resources so you’ll have all you need at your fingertips to continue on your coding journey.
