| | 2015 Wrap up. | Each 12 months we take wide strides forward in-step with our top notch ISV partners, students and startups. As we near the end of the year we take a look over our shoulders. This year we looked back to see the three days in September that usually mark TechEd also marked an institution in the NZ Tech industry that’s been around for 20 years. Not only did the event reach its second decade of awesomeness, but 140+ sessions, 118 speakers from 5 countries and 2,500 attendees. And a new name – Ignite. Ignite NZ will be back 25-28 October 2016. Check out the top three sessions from this year online: The secret to telling awesome stories from Microsoft’s Chief Storyteller, The Microsoft DevOps Vision and Aligning Architecture to Organization.
Ignite is our largest event each year. We also ran //build/ Auckland back in May. Over 480 developers joined us to listen, learn, and ask questions. Speakers on the day included Giorgio Sardo, Senior Director in the Developer Experience and Evangelism (DX) group; Dave Crawford, Senior Design Program Manager; and Nikola Metulev, Program Manager in the Engineering Engagement and Evangelism Group.
Good things come in small packages too. In 2015 we ran over 60 Azure events. Attendees joined us for Dev Camps and User Groups across the country. There’s more Dev Camps to come in February as well as weekly events from a handful of User Groups and Meetups we enjoy working closely with.
Talk about moving fast. Talk about growing fast. As partners of the Lightning Lab we’ve watched the Auckland cohort and the inaugural Christchurch cohort raise 19 promising startups since March, with the help of the BizSpark programme and the recently announced $20 million support package that marks our commitment to supporting the ecosystem.
Emerging tech stars are shooting up from our tertiary institutions as well. This year the Microsoft Student Accelerator programme delivered 15 events and are now placing 129 students into work experience with 32 of our customers and partners for the summer.
We continue to see our partners embracing our new platforms, with Xero releasing the new integrated Outlook Office app available on the Office Store. TVNZ releasing their TVNZ On demand services built on the Universal Windows Platform with Mobile and XBOX One coming in 2016.
More news came just last month at Connect(); when updates to Visual Studio Code were announced including that it is now open sourced. VS Code is free and available to you on your favourite platform - Linux, Mac OSX, and Windows.
As we draw close to the end of December, it's time to take a breath. We’re closing in on the finish line now. We’d like to wish you a restful break, and thank you for joining us on the journey in 2015. With next year’s starting line on the horizon I’d like to finish on one note, and that is – see you there. |
